Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. The higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the system will be. As of 2006, the federal government mandates that all new central air conditioning equipment be at least 13 S.E.E.R., but there is equipment available rated as high as 18 and some claim even higher ratings.
